You may have seen our commercial on TV letting you know that is okay to replace your siding during the winter, but the commercial is only 30 seconds long so I am sure you want the cold, hard facts about siding replacement in the winter. Here are some of the concerns that we normally hear about winter siding replacement:
1. Won't the siding become brittle and crack in the cold weather?
Quality siding is engineered to with stand the harsh climate. No matter what the temperature. If your siding is going to crack during the install you either have a low quality product or an inexperienced contractor. At Ryan Windows & Siding we only install brands that we can stand behind and trust that they will stand the test of time, like Klauer and LP Smartside Siding. With correct installation, these siding brands will withstand the most extreme temperature changes, from hot summers to frigid winters for decades to come.
2. I heard the sealant will not adhere during the colder temperatures.
Just like in siding, there are high performance sealants/caulks that can be applied in colder weather. These are typically silicone based products and are designed to be applied at temperatures as low as -20 providing your home with the weatherproof seal that is necessary.
3. Siding is a big job and I do not want to expose my home to the cold weather.
Your home is going to have limited exposure to the elements. The siding is removed in sections and will immediately be covered with a wrap to protect your home while the siding is being replaced.
4. I would feel guilty knowing the crew is outside working on my house in such cold weather.
